Clean Air? - Take Care!
The BSIF and the HSE, together with a number of safety industry stakeholders, have launched the new "Clean Air? - Take Care!" campaign. The campaign is focused on overcoming the often ineffective use of Respiratory Protection Equipment (RPE) in the workplace. This problem is leading to serious long-term health issues Our campaign is supported by IOSH, IOM, Safety Groups UK, BOHS, IIRSM, TUC and many others.
Aims & Objectives
Recent research by both the BSIF and HSE has highlighted two major concerns. Firstly, RPE is not being selected properly and secondly, in a significant number of companies, RPE is not being used at all, even though there is a clear respiratory hazard.
Clean Air? Take Care! has been developed jointly by the HSE, BSIF and leading industry stakeholders. By supplying simple advice to users and specifiers of RPE, the campaign aims to help people correctly select RPE and implement a full respiratory protection programme.
A new and extensive selection of 'tools' is available to support the campaign. These include a simple RPE selection guide and an informative RPE user poster that can be downloaded from this site. You can also request a copy of our campaign DVD via our contact us form. The DVD features two films and a toolbox presentation aimed at safety managers. The first film outlines the correct use of RPE to users. The second gives a doctors view of the need for adequate protection and the consequences of ignoring it.
HSE have highlighted that approx 12,000 deaths occur each year from respiratory diseases caused by occupational exposure. By getting involved in the Clean Air? Take Care! campaign and working together we can substantially reduce that number.
